Artery AT32 as an STM32F103 upgrade
Where GigaDevice aims for drop-in parity, Artery's AT32 is the performance-upgrade play: same STM32F103 footprint, but a Cortex-M4F core running 200 MHz (AT32F413) to 240 MHz (AT32F403A) against ST's 72 MHz. That extra headroom is not free — it comes with a firmware port.
Pin-compatible, not software-transparent
Artery keeps ST's pin and density naming, so the board usually stays. But most registers are compatible "not all" — you recompile against Artery's device pack and work through peripheral clock configuration and a handful of relocated registers. Artery publishes official migration guides (MG0007 for F103→F403A, MG0003 for F103→F413) that itemise the differences; we archive and cite them on every match.
What you gain, what you check
- Clock: 200-240 MHz vs 72 MHz — review every peripheral clock divider and timing assumption.
- Temperature: the T7 grade runs -40~105 °C, wider than ST's -40~85 °C T6.
- Firmware: budget a port, not a recompile-and-ship. The migration guide is your checklist.
